"BARBARIANS AT THE DOOR"
Poem by Joda Khan

Extra! Extra! Read all about it!
Barbarians at the door heartless and cold!
Thousands killed in the name of God!
how sad the scene
that plays out humanities' final curtain call
and shall we return in kind America
with hate and pain
in the name of God!
the Vatican will ride with the Beast
behold the New World Order
East and West
poised pompous pretenders to God's throne
from the East the sun rises
and in its place as always
the golden orb embraces the West
as the last light of day dwindles
always in harmony
yet they speak in terms of superpower
and still
even in anger
the West must receive the sun
at the God given hour
and were the barbarians
truly able to withhold the sun
America would long have been deprived of flowers
and darkness would reign
only pretenders
in the name of God
superpowers are only super egos
little boys with fatal toys
clenched tight in a game of Monopoly
I know thou shalt not kill
but I've got my eye on your boardwalk
and thousands of stilled voices
are acceptable losses
except no one asked those who were lost
what is the nationality of a dead child?
and did I detect an accent in her mother's screams
barbarians are at the door
but who indeed is on the other side
