"CAGED"
Poem by Joda Khan

one might think
that flesh and blood
restrained by steel
would cry out for release
yet when confined in space
the purest mind
consigns itself to peace
a monk seeking enlightenment
does not wander among the crowds
contemplating nature's wisdom
he retreats his mind
that his soul might speak out loud
the grandest tree in the forest
branches reaching for the sun
bears it soul
in utter darkness
following the path
that its roots must run
caged birds still sing
but not for their master's delight
they sing
because the cage is vacant
their hearts and souls have taken flight
so pity me not
have no despair
for my cage is empty too
it only contains my flesh and blood
my heart and soul
have both slipped through
