"The Cauldron"

Original 18x24 Acrylic on Panel by Ejay Khan

Inspired by poem by Kurt Erhard Berger, dear friend and poet who has passed over. This is in his memory, and I know he is smiling.

The Cauldron
By Kurt Erhard Berger

Tsssssss!
The cauldron is ready
heated by the sun of each new day
the essence of all life
painful to the touch of tender hands
the village elders
dry skinned and withered
sit stirring

Fetch me the moon
soft curves seducing the night
second only to the wooing of lovers
beads and body fluid left behind
to become the glistening dew
upon the early morning grass

Run into rivers
flowing to fill the salty ocean
waves lap in past rhythmic motion
the silent secrets in the lives of children
not knowing what they hear
the village elders
dry skinned and withered
sit stirring

Catch me the sky
that flutters amongst the wings of birds
above my own temptations
larger than all life
where the cries get lost in the darkness
and clouds block out all meaning
the wind whispers names of plenty

Hopes become jumbled voices
reaching out to no one
as we coil down with strangers
seeking many answers
(if only for one night)
the village elders
dry skinned and withered
sit stirring

Harness the stars!
in twinkling mockery
each an eye
peering down from the darkness
knowing all loneliness as their own
wishing upon each one of us

Washed away like patterns in the sand
within the tide of dawning day
candles wick still smoking
lost friends and lovers
sleepless nights forever burning
the village elders
dry skinned and withered
sit stirring
