"LAND OF DREAMS"
Poem by Joda Khan

I have walked in the presence of the Old Ones
I've dined on thoughts so fresh
that just to repeat them would leave an exotic scent in the air
but that was long ago
I walk my sleeping dreams wide-awake
aware of myself
total consciousness is my curse
imagination the cross that I must bear
in my dreams unrestrained
there's no role that I cannot play
I wrote them all
wisdom?
only to know that you know
and so in knowing you are
but please do not be deceived
for knowing is the second horn on the serpent's head
for to know leaves you craving to feel
ah to feel you say
an exquisite thing
and yet if so
then what of pain
the Old Ones say
that to watch a starving leopard
slaughter a crying lamb
will leave a scar on your heart
but would you not shed a tear for a starving leopard
pain like a dream
is a relative thing
a kiss wide-awake
and in sleep the same scene
and should you awake from slumber crying
are the tears not wet
when the sun fades her image
in this space regret
or must you fall from a mountain
in the sleepy regions of your mind
expecting to find yourselves crushed and twisted when you open your eyes
but in your dream reality you didn't die
what a marvelous thing
you've taught your bodies to fly
fantasy
oh no reality
or so it seems
when you awake to find yourselves
in the land of dreams
