The Other Woman
Painting and Poem by Ejay Khan © 2005

she lures him into her smoke filled abyss
a lifeless abode his mind cannot resist
“come to me” she whispers
I will take away your pain
your joy
your humanity
your craving for me
will drive you to insanity
from you I will fashion an empty shell
where an unlimited being once did dwell
her allure turns great men to deceivers and thieves
all the while scheming to make you believe
they will leave her
your love for the man you once knew
makes you stay
placing your own precious life on a tray
in the back of the hallway closet
living in constant fear stress and dread
worrying each day
is he with her or dead
in some God forsaken back alley
until one morning you wake up and know
he may never leave her so you must let go
and save yourself
all the while praying
that one day he will do the same
