“Up From The Pyramids”
Poem by Joda Khan, Painting by Ejay Khan © 2002

gather close my brothers and listen well
to the words of an ancient song
the pyramids mark the place of our arrival
where the original man stood proud and strong
from the base to the tip all knowledge flows
one God
one love
one force
caravans carrying precious jewels of wisdom
by the four winds’ example set their course
we’re wizened travelers from another plane
crossing over the sands of time
empires spring forth in our wake
a wonderous new world by Allah’s design
this blue green planet third from the sun
is playing host to the children of God
thunder in the East proclaims His presence
and as we grew
we thrived
we multiplied
at the end of the seventh day of creation
nightfall engulfed the world
and from that darkened pit
that holds God’s lesser creations
a mist began to swirl
the eyes of evil now opened wide
cast their sight upon the land
and with hate and envy they could not control
their attention was now drawn
to the original man
yet up from the pyramids
the melodious song rang out sweet and clear
the rhythm of drumbeats echoed along the Nile
a heartbeat so strong the whole world could hear
Hannibal took a stroll across the top of the world
Mohammed dropping
dropping words of wisdom
like they were pearls
Cleopatra
sculpted in ebony splendor
portrayed the difference
between women and mere girls
yes up
up from the pyramids we came
